Jason Smith: "Just be realistic with me on Sam Darnold. The hype is out of control just because it's a story of him getting away from the Jets. You know how many guys got away from the Jets and been good? Everybody but Le'Veon Bell. That's the list. Everybody but Le'Veon Bell, so just temper it a little bit. It's not that Sam Darnold is terrible, he's just one of what many average starting quarterbacks can be. He's an average guy. He's just a guy. Many quarterbacks are going to be good with weapons around you. Darnold has done exactly as I thought he would do. He's left some plays out there, but he's made some plays. But in the end, he's a guy."
Jason Smith and Mike Harmon react to Sam Darnold starting his Panthers career with 3 straight wins. Jason believes the hype around Darnold's success has gotten out of control, as people who are viewing Darnold as a premier talent that was held back by the Jets are giving Darnold way too much credit. Jason explains why the improved roster in Carolina is a much bigger reason for Darnold's success than his true ability as a quarterback.
