Purdue has topped the preseason Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll for the first time in program history.

The Boilermakers topped the first Top 25 poll of the upcoming 2025-26 season released on Monday (October 13), topping the runner-up Houston Cougars at No. 2 overall and the reigning national champion Florida Gators at No. 3. Purdue finished the 2024-25 season with a 24-12 (13-7 Big Ten) record and Sweet Sixteen appearance.

"We are obviously excited to get the season going and being ranked No. 1 in the preseason is a great indicator of what we feel this team can accomplish," said head coach Matt Painter via ESPN. "But the goal is to be No. 1 at the end of the year. We're thrilled that people think this highly of our team, but there is a long ways to go and a lot of work to do to reach that goal in April."
