Astros Rookie Yordan Alvarez Has Record-Setting Month With 35 RBIs

Oakland Athletics v Houston Astros

Houston Astros rookie slugger Yordan Alvarez etched his name into the record books with a home run and two RBIs in the Astros' 11-1 victory against the Oakland Athletics. The pair of RBIs gave Alvarez 35 in his first 30 games as a major leaguer. He passed Albert Pujols, who had 34 RBIs during his first 30 games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2001.

"I was very happy and very grateful [about the record], something I just found out about when I got here to the clubhouse," Alvarez said through an interpreter after the game. "Especially with [Pujols], it's an honor and a privilege. When we were in Anaheim, I spoke with him, and he gave me a lot of advice, a lot of information to help me out."

The 22-year-old phenom is batting .342 and has 11 home runs to go with the 35 RBIs since he made his major league debut on June 9. He burst onto the scene, hitting four home runs in his first five games, making him the fourth player in history to pull off that feat.
